Rookie races for ages 8-13 and 11-16 years

A lot of the young drivers competing in the main Junior Club Championships have been doing so for a few seasons now and are at the top of the club tree. This can be rather daunting to a new driver, one who has previously only undertaken kart school introductory lessons or who has only raced indoors somewhere.

The Rookie races were introduced for just such a driver. To allow him or her to learn to race without pressure, in a safe and friendly environment, and amongst other drivers of similar ability and experience. Races are arranged throughout the year. See Race dates for details.

What constitutes a rookie? Well, as far as we are concerned, a rookie is a driver who has either not yet raced at all or started to race no earlier than the start of the immediately preceding season.

All potential rookie drivers must have completed at least one cadet introductory lesson at the Sisley Kart School (or similar and approved elsewhere) to ensure safety and competence.

The format is exactly the same as at a full Junior Club Championship race with each driver having a three lap practice, three point scoring heats and a final for every driver. The only difference is that both age groups (8-13 and 11-16) race during the same event though in separate races. The age ranges are deliberately overlapped to take account of different growth rates of the drivers. A driver aged between 11 and 13 years can opt to race in either, or indeed both, age groups.

All the results and laptimes are uploaded to this website together with a full race report and photos. The rookie members have the right to access the Junior Members forum where they can communicate with other juniors and discuss all manner of karting and non karting subjects. (parental approval is required to join the forum).

Once a rookie masters his or her racecraft and begins to do well the full Junior Club Championship is no longer a daunting proposition and makes the ideal next step up the motorsport ladder.

Rookie races start from £70. See Race dates for details.
